Skims accused of going 'too far' with latest product - but it's sold out

Skims, Kim Kardashian's brand, has sparked controversy once again with its latest product launch. However, there's clearly an appetite for it from some consumers, as the £34 thong has already sold out. If it didn't make you cringe enough to have a bra with faux nipples poking out of it, or a sling for your face to make it more 'snatched' while you sleep, then prepare yourself, because this might be the item that tips you over the edge.

The 'faux hair micro string thong' is described by Skimsas "our most daringpanty yet". It's "hand-made in a super sheer, stretch mesh, this string thong features a mix of curly and straight faux hair in twelve different shade variations. Complete with elastic side straps".

Yes, you read that right. The thong is essentially covered in fake pubic hair...

It was available in sizes XXS to 4XL in many different shades of pubic hair - and every single one has sold out.

RaeShanda Lias posted on Threads, joking that "we're going through enough already" without having to buy "a fake bush on a string".

She joked that she was "calling the police" on the people who had already bought them, saying she wasn't sure whether they were sold out or "hadn't opened sales yet".

RaeShanda praised the "variety of shades," but said: "2025, haven't we already been through enough?"

She also joked that it's "too much" to have a "bush at the front and a string up your a**" at the same time.

In the comments, people were also equally baffled and praying that this wasn't a real product and that people hadn't purchased every single shade and size.

"It’s Halloween season, expect the most creative outfits with those undies," someone joked.

Another fumed: "Ugh, I’m not understanding how they’re sold out. Everyone who purchased one of these things should have to be placed on a 72-hour hold immediately".

"Or I can just grow my coochie hair for free. What are we doing here?" a woman asked.

Others wondered why women were getting their hair "lazered off" only to buy one of these thongs.

"You made me almost fall off the dang treadmill at the gym," somebody shared.

However, some referred to the marketing of the product as "genius," joking that she deserved the "Nobel prize". "I will say I love that it's embracing the bush [...] I think it's progressive," one woman said about the product.

According to etymonline, this product is a merkin. It means "artificial vagina or 'counterfeit hair for a woman's privy parts'"

According to "The Oxford Companion to the Body," the custom of wearing merkins dates from the mid-15c., was associated with prostitutes, and was to disguise a want of pubic hair, either shaved off to exterminate body lice or as a result of venereal disease.

Today, they are also used as decorative or erotic accessories in various contexts.

Skims has been contacted for comment.
